A mother doe with its fawn is extremely protective and can become aggressive to animals and humans during the summer months while fawns are still small. |
Overprotective does with their fawn killed a dachshund and 3-month-old Yorkshire terrier. The doe that stomped the Yorkshire terrier was also believed to have broken a schnauzer’s jaw. The doe was captured and put down.
“Be careful. The does are really protective of their fawns right now,” Troy McGee, Helena police chief, told the Helena Independent Record newspaper.
Complaints have stemmed from all over town. A pug suffered from lacerations on its head after an encounter with a doe.
McGee warns all residents to keep a close watch on dogs in their yards and to exercise caution while walking them.
